The other night the girls had a hard time settling down. After the warning was ignored the consequence had to come down and Steve walked out with The Princess' lion, Lionel, and Sweetpea's bunny, Benjamin. He chose strategically, bad enough to send a message, not the favorite to traumatize them.
However, though Sweetpea has barely glanced at the beautiful white, fluffy bunny I carefully placed in her crib when she was tiny, she sobbed like we'd taken her lifeblood. Slowly the crying died down and soon the two tired girls were asleep. When we went in later we found the The Princess had given her Betty Bunny, even though she sleeps with her every night.
The next morning, when Steve asked her about it, she said she'd given Betty to Sweetpea so that she wouldn't be sad anymore. Can we all just melt into a puddle for minute?
Then she said, "You know Daddy, Lionel and Betty are married."
"Oh really? Did you marry them?"
"No, I just gave them the things they needed."
Now I have no idea what those special things were but whatever she gave them seems to be working. Lionel and Betty are going strong with 5 years of marital bliss.
Maybe we'll do a joint celebration of their 5 and our 15 years, The Princess loves an excuse for a party!
*That's right. 15 years of marriage. Somebody pinch me, I'm getting old!

Exhilarating Life
Right now, with all of the traveling and solo parenting, school questions, job stresses, and a general lack of sleep, I'm having a little trouble finding words, much less coherent sentences. I'm just holding on until June when things SHOULD be a little more normal, or at least there will be two adults back in the same house to split some of the parenting duties. By which I mean, give each other one morning to actually sleep in!
In the meantime, this is how I REALLY want to feel about life.

Mother's Day
For Mother's Day I got a lovely piece of jewelry, cards, and even a nap.
I also got blood on my brand new dress when taking care of The Princess' scraped elbow and got snot on my collar after consoling a heartbroken Sweetpea when she couldn't play tag with Daddy RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT.
Those are the two moments that I'm treasuring from the day.

Welcome Home
After an epic 10 day trip with two small and amazingly great co-travelers I arrived home to find laundry done, fresh basic groceries in the fridge, scrapes in two walls patched and painted, both bathtubs resealed and fresh flowers on the table. A whole lot of small things that added up to a very big welcome home.

Pink Curlers
I remember trying to sleep with these little pink torture devices digging into my scalp, promising beautiful curls in the morning. I don't know that I ever looked this ethereal in the process though.
