Countdown

Oh, so you think I should have a real post here?  Yeah, well I've got 4,000 more words to write and I'm using all of my brain power to come up with them... (hopefully less by now. check the counter on the right and you'll see where I'm currently stuck)

NaNo ends soon and then, with a little recovery time and a week straight of sleep I'll be back to normal. Or, since I won't get that week straight of sleep, I'll be semi coherent and that should be good enough, right?

Well at least someone is sleeping!

Missing November

So...I've been a little quiet around here, I know.  Remember last November? Remember that silly thing I did called NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)?

Yeah?

Totally doing it again this year. It's better than last year. It's still crazy. I'm trying to put out a consistent 2000 words a day. I'm getting up at 6 every morning (except for the days I go into work, then it's 5:30.)

I'm a winner...and crazy too!

So...I've been busy this past month.

No, not with the new baby or the precocious 3 year old. I've barely folded my laundry and done the bare minimum in making dinner. I haven't even made any Christmas plans.

What then, you ask have I been so busy with? Well, on November 1st I happened to read a couple of blog posts about NaNoWriMo and then saw that a couple friends on Facebook had decided to take the challenge. Curious about this strange acronym I hightailed it over to the website (what did we ever do without the internet?) to find out what on earth they were talking about.

Turns out the November is NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth and there's a big challenge on the internet to write a complete 50,000+ word novel in 30 days. CRAZY!

So of course, without any thought whatsoever, I signed up to do it.

That's right. For thirty days I have been writing like a maniac trying to complete about 2000 words every day. In between crying babies/preschoolers, laundry, vacuuming and diaper blowouts. I'm ridiculous, I know.

However, after much craziness, a husband who has now confirmed that I'm certifiably insane (but was supportive anyway! Truly!), and eyes that have been permanently dry and red for the last 10 days, I am a WINNER!

Yep, that's right. I completed a novel in 30 days! It's a first draft, it's rough and needs much work but I got an entire story down in writing; beginning, ending and even a middle. It's a big accomplishment and I'm pretty proud of myself.

Now I have to go clean my house.

Hair Days

When I was pregnant I desperately wanted a bald baby. The first thing Gretchen told me when The Princess finally made her appearance was "Don't worry. She doesn't have hair!" and I was all "Oh, thank goodness!" And we both ignored the nurses giving us weird looks and wondering why we weren't bothering to count her fingers and toes...

The Princess then proceeded to NOT grow hair for almost 2 years! No big deal - she has has such a beautiful head plus it made the morning routine super easy and bath time was a breeze! But I was starting to wonder just a little bit if the hair gene was actually going to kick in. I mean, it's one of the guaranteed good genes Steve and I are passing on; other than the blue eyed thing which I will probably rapture about at some other time.

Then...her two year birthday came (and the lack of an actual photographed celebration could be another post, but perhaps we won't go there...It makes me look bad!) and suddenly those genes kicked in and she's been growing hair like nobodies business. It just occurred to me the other day that maybe those tiny little rubberbands might actually be useful now.

And Voila!
